PACARI Biodynamic®—Beyond Organic:
Biodynamic® agriculture is an integrated farming system that views the farm as a living organism. Some sustainable farming techniques used in PACARI's cacao projects include composts made with non-conventional organic and mineral components prepared and applied according to Biodynamic® principles and philosophy to rejuvenate farms, interplanting and preservation of cacao's genetic diversity. Farmers avoid all chemical products and set aside a minimum of 10% of their total acreage for biodiversity. The entire farm, versus a particular crop, must be certified, and farms are inspected annually. In order for a product to bear the Demeter® logo it must be made with certified Biodynamic® ingredients and meet strict Demeter® processing standards to ensure the purest possible product.
